Careers in Marketing

A major in marketing gives your career versatility and a potential for growth not found in many other areas. Marketing involves determining consumer needs, translating those needs into products and services, and selling them in a competitive, global marketplace. Students will take courses in communications (written and oral), mathematics, economics, management, humanities, natural and social sciences, in addition to marketing.

Marketing Pathways

There are two main paths to take in marketing: in-house and agency.

Agencies establish and maintain the relationship between the companies, customers, and products, as well as create effective campaigns. Marketing professionals may work in full-service agencies (which incorporates marketing strategy development, ad creation, media planning and buying, account planning and research), and production or boutiques. Working at an agency means you can work on a variety of brands at once.

In-house is when the marketing activities are handled internally by a marketing department of a company. Working in-house means you work solely on one brand.
